Frequently asked questions

Although the programme is aimed at people aged 18 and over, there is no upper age limit. Anyone can apply, regardless of age, denomination, gender or cultural background. There are no specific requirements for admission, but applicants should have a passion for the Christian faith and a desire to deepen their knowledge. Applications include a current CV with passport photo and a letter of recommendation from the church leader or Christian organisation leader.

Yes, you will receive a diploma in Biblical Theology. However, it is important to note that the diploma of this theology programme is not the same as a bachelor's degree, because it requires a Matura degree. Nevertheless, students are taught the same knowledge so that they can acquire a solid theological foundation at the highest level.

The language of instruction is German, but ETA Zurich is working on translating the theology course into various languages, including English, Croatian, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Romanian, Dutch, etc.

The study programme includes core theological subjects such as biblical studies and theology, as well as specialised subjects such as pastoral care, church planting and evangelism. The face-to-face study is complemented by an online platform that allows students to access the content and gain more flexibility.

It is recommended but not required. The three-year theology degree is offered in a hybrid and online format with 4 lessons per week. Although the study is delivered as a face-to-face course, students can access the teaching videos at any time according to their individual schedule. This means you can also study from home and enjoy the flexibility of adapting your studies to your schedule.

The study programme comprises 4 lessons per week and lasts 3 years. Strictly speaking, a semester (6 months) at ETA Zurich comprises only 4 months, which means that students are not under pressure and can approach the remaining 2 months in a more relaxed manner and invest them in preparations.

The study of theology at ETA Zurich prepares students to work in various Christian professions, including church leadership, pastoral care, evangelism, mission work and Christian education. Some graduates will also work in social services and other fields.

Essentially, yes. But depending on the denomination, the diploma of ETA Zurich might not be accepted, as the teachings and doctrines are not the same in all churches. It is recommended to clarify the acceptance of the diploma in advance with the church or organisation to which one is applying.

In contrast to the traditional study of theology, no Matura is required for admission to study at ETA Zurich, which allows access to a broader group of people. In this way, a high-quality theological education that is faithful to the Bible can be imparted to every member of the congregation and every interested person. However, a student WITH a Matura degree can find out about further studies in a one-to-one interview. Various possibilities can be discussed individually with Prof. Dr. Schwanke and Prof. Dr. Seubert during or after the theological studies at ETA Zurich.
